Endometriosis & Pelvic Pain: Surgical Indications, Limits, and the Multidisciplinary Imperative
Join Associate Professor Susan Evans with Clinical Professor Thierry Vancaillie and Dr Peta Wright of the complex landscape of endometriosis and pelvic pain management and the critical role of a multidisciplinary team in optimizing patient outcomes.
Learning Outcomes:
Differentiate between suspected endometriosis, central sensitisation, and complex pelvic pain phenotypes, and apply this distinction to clinical decision-making.
Apply evidence-based criteria for surgical versus non-surgical management, including identifying situations where surgery is unlikely to improve outcomes.
Identify clinical and systems red flags for over-intervention and increased risk of harm.
Demonstrate trauma-informed, ethically robust shared decision-making and consent, including counselling regarding fertility implications.
Critically reflect on a recent pelvic pain/endometriosis case from their own practice (referral, counselling, or surgical decision-making) against contemporary best practice.
Identify and document at least one practice improvement action to strengthen patient safety, consent processes, multidisciplinary care, and appropriate referral pathways (including fertility referral where indicated).
