Keeping girls in school and getting them back to class matters.
The Sick Bay Kit for Period & Pelvic Pain Relief was developed by the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia to help schools respond confidently and compassionately when students experience period or pelvic pain during the school day — so pain doesn’t automatically mean missing class or going home.
Designed for use in school sick bays and wellbeing spaces, the kit brings together practical, evidence-informed tools that support safe, non-medicated pain relief and self-management. It includes items such as a reusable heat pack, a TENS machine with clear instructions, and a branded yoga mat with guided stretches to help relax pelvic muscles. Alongside these are age-appropriate educational resources, including a teen-friendly pelvic pain book, factsheets on acupressure, stretching, mindfulness, managing period pain, and safe medication use.
The kit also supports communication and continuity of care, with materials to help schools liaise with families and health professionals when pain is ongoing. By equipping staff with the right tools and information, the Sick Bay Kit helps students feel supported, believed, and able to return to learning — reinforcing the message that period pain is manageable, and that girls belong in the classroom.
